1- Experience. There's no substitute for it. Find someone who has a long history as a wedding DJ. At least ten years. An experienced DJ will have a deeper music catalogue

and know all the procedures, as well as the pitfalls, of your event.

2- Reliability. It's shocking how unprofessional many DJs are. Too many of them show up at the last minute and scramble to set up in full view of the audience. It is imperative that the DJ is willing to setup and sound check at lease two hours before the event begins.

Also, be sure the DJ you hire is the one who will be at your party. Some DJs send a replacement if they get a better offer.

3- Equipment. The standard setup for a mobile DJ is two powered speakers on poles and a laptop. It's designed to make it easy for the DJ to get in and out with the least amount of equipment to move. 4- References. Check for references and testimonials. A good DJ with a solid track record should have both. While you're at it check to see if the DJ has insurance.

5- Communication. The DJ is a person you will be working hand in hand with throughout the planning process. It is important that you have a DJ who is accessible and responsive.
